چکیده

Focusing light at sub-wavelength region opens up interesting applications in optical sensing and imaging beyond the diffraction limit. In the past, tapered Au wires with carved gratings have been employed to achieve nanofocusing. The fabrication process however, is expensive and the obtained wires are polycrystalline with high surface roughness. A chemical synthetic method overcoming these hurdles should be an attractive alternative. Here, we report a method to chemically synthesize Au microcrystals (,10 mm) bearing pentagonal bipyramidal morphology with surface corrugations assignable to high index planes. The method is a single step solid state synthesis at a temperature amenable to common substrates. The microcrystals are tapered at both ends forming sharp tips (,55 nm). Individual microcrystals have been used as pick and probe SERS substrates for a dye embedded in a polymermatrix. The unique geometry of the microcrystal also enables light propagation across its length.

High-index faceted Au nanocrystals with highly controllable optical properties and electro-catalytic activity.

We introduce a new and naturally abundant mild reducing agent, tannic acid, to improve the seed-mediated growth method for the synthesis of elongated tetrahexahedral Au nanocrystals enclosed with high-index (730) planes, at room-temperature. The control of the dimensions, plasmonics and electro-catalysis of such high-index faceted nanocrystals is remarkable.

Ex-situ studies on calcinations of structural, optical and morphological properties of post-growth nanoparticles CeO2 by HRTEM and SAED

Nanocrystalline particles of Cerium Oxide (CeO2) have been prepared by the chemical precipitation method using Cerium nitrate and Urea with a molar ratio of 1:2. The results revealed that the formation of CeO2 fine particles is influenced by molar ratio of metal nitrates to fuel. Well faceted CeO2 nanoparticles, were synthesized by thermal-assisted dissociation ...

Synthesis and catalytic properties of nano CuO prepared by soft chemical method

Well faceted CuO nanoparticles, were synthesized by thermal-assisted dissociation method at reflux temperature in a short period of time. A possible mechanism for synthesis of such highly pure and stable nanoparticles is tentatively proposed by FT-IR study. The large surface area and rich exposed active sites are expected to endow such nanoparticles with excellent performances in catalysis as d...

The First Homoleptic Complex of Seven-Coordinated Osmium: Synthesis and Crystallographical Evidence of Pentagonal Bipyramidal Polyhedron of Heptacyanoosmate(IV)

The ligand exchange in (n-Bu4N)2OsCl6 (n-Bu4N = tetra-n-butylammonium) leads to the formation of the osmium(IV) heptacyanide, the first fully inorganic homoleptic complex of heptacoordinated osmium. The single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SC-XRD) study reveals the pentagonal bipyramidal molecular structure of the [Os(CN)7] anion. The latter being a diamagnetic analogue of the highly anisotropic p...
